Golf has been the centerpiece of the Champaign Country Club since its founding in 1904. The same year of the Club's founding the original nine holes were designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Bendelow.
In 1923, the Club purchased an additioanl 60 acres of the Chester estate to the west of the existing course in order to expand the nine-hole course to eighteen. In the same year, the club employeed William B. Still of Akron, Ohio to supervise the work of laying out the eighteen-hole golf course.
Edward Lawrence Packard redesigned the course in 1968-69, changes inlcuding a slight rerouting of the outward nine with rolling countours and fairways that characterize the course today.
